The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties stands firmly against violence and racial oppression in all its forms. This violent incident underscores reports of elevated levels of anti-Asian hate, attacks, discrimination, and harassment in our communities.
Hate crimes against Asians and Asian Americans in major U.S. cities rose by 150 percent last year, and within that number, women have been disproportionately targeted. Many experts attribute the rise in hate crimes to xenophobia and the negative stereotyping of the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community surrounding COVID-19 cases.
As philanthropic and community leaders, we must collectively advocate for equity and work together to find collaborative solutions.
