The Senior Director of Philanthropic Services is a philanthropic advisor who will help shape and bring the donors’ charitable interests and priorities to fruition through the Foundation’s variety of donor advised funds and legacy or planned gifts. This position will work closely with individuals, families, and family foundations. The primary role is to increase assets under management, provide excellent customer service for established fundholders, oversee the execution of annual giving strategies, oversee the design and implementation of the annual donor stewardship plan, and assist with the execution of a successful scholarship program.

The Senior Director will work collaboratively with the Finance and Accounting team, Community Impact team, the Philanthropic Services team, and other departments within the organization. This position reports to the Vice President of Philanthropic Services.

  • Supervise the Donor Relations team as part of the Philanthropic Services Team which includes Director of Philanthropic Services, Grant Services Manager and Scholarship Program Manager.
  • Responsible for implementing the strategy for cultivating and stewarding fundholders, Board of Directors, and donors to increase assets under management by $14M.
  • Create timeline and oversee the implementation for annual appeal, and donor cultivation strategies throughout the year.
  • Responsible for managing an established portfolio of 200 fundholders.
  • Work with fundholders on all technical aspects of their fund including stock transfers, estate planning, fund amendments and opening additional funds.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IRS regulations related to donor advised funds and the best practices with Community Foundations.
  • Oversee donor relations services such as welcome materials & packets, thank you letters, weekly grant approval and distribution of donor-directed grants.
  • Collaborate with marketing and community engagement team on donor events such as Founder’s Luncheon, Annual Donor’s Luncheon and Legacy Society Luncheon.
  • Collaborate with Community Impact team when families and foundations need recommendations on nonprofit organizations.
  • Work with professional advisors to help administer legacy gifts to the Foundation.
  • Track prospects and donor engagement activities through Community Foundation’s internal database system.
  • Represent the Community Foundation at a variety of community events and professional associations.
  • Meet with a minimum of 3-5 fundholders weekly,
  • Provide advanced prospect research for Vice President for Philanthropic Services.


Bachelor’s degree required. At least five years successful track record of development, donor cultivation, project management, planned giving or charitable giving strategies, donor relations or related field required. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities. Excellent computer skills including PowerPoint, Adobe Previous experience with customer relationship management database preferred. Proven ability to interact comfortably with a broad spectrum of donors, community leaders and nonprofit representatives required. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.


Excellent writing, proofreading and critical thinking skills. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Excellent telephone and customer service skills.


The Director of Philanthropic Services, Donor Services Manager and Scholarship Program Manager report to this position.
