The Community Foundation will host its second Martens Award Luncheon on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Polo Club of Boca Raton.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (September 9, 2016) – The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties will host its second Martens Award Luncheon on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Polo Club of Boca Raton. The exciting program celebrates philanthropy, giving, volunteering and charitable engagement in Southern Palm Beach County. The program will highlight the accomplishments philanthropy makes to our society and the leadership role the Community Foundation has played within the community for the past 44 years.
Boca philanthropists Barbara and Irving Gutin will be honored with the Martens Award for their extraordinary service in the community. Ann Christiano, Frank Karel Chair in Public Interest Communications at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, will provide a keynote address titled Accelerant on the Fire of Social Change.
“Marie Graber Martens was a humble Boca Raton philanthropist, quietly supporting education and people in need. Mrs. Martens gave a $15 million bequest in 1990 at her passing to the Community Foundation, doubling the assets of the organization at that time. Her visionary role in the growth of the Community Foundation has enabled the organization to serve the community many times over,” said Bradley Hurlburt, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. “What better way to celebrate the power of philanthropy than by hosting this event and honoring Barbara and Irving Gutin, philanthropists making a difference in South Palm Beach County.”
More than 200 people are expected to attend the luncheon, including board members, donors and fund holders, local nonprofit organizations, corporate sponsors and community leaders.
Premier sponsor is PNC Bank. Community sponsors include The Boca Raton Observer and South Florida PBS. Table sponsors include Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, FAU Foundation, Lynn University, Impact 100 Palm Beach County, Alzheimer’s Community Care and Palm Beach State College Foundation.
