About the Fund
The scholarship is available to graduating seniors from public or private high schools in Palm Beach and Martin counties who demonstrate financial need and a sincere desire to pursue technical training, specialized education or nontraditional programs.
“We don’t know of anyone else who has a scholarship like this,” Stephen Weiner said. “But we have known many young men and women who were talented but had no opportunity to develop their talents.”
Growing up in Lynn, Massachusetts — affectionately known as a “shoe town” — Mr. Weiner witnessed firsthand the value of alternative educational paths. “We had a shoe school as an alternative to high school,” he recalled. “Although I believe every child should have a complete high school education, I also believe there should be more than just liberal arts or business programs as alternatives for post-secondary education.”
The Weiners’ vision is rooted in a strong belief that all young people have a “God-given gift” — they simply need the opportunity to nurture it. “The majority of scholarships assist students desiring a four-year advanced education,” Mr. Weiner said. “But we feel all kids have a gift. They only need the chance to exploit it.”
Roberta Weiner echoed the sentiment, adding, “I often wonder, if our own children didn’t have the opportunity to go to college, what would they do?”
Through the Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Scholarship Fund, the Weiners are giving young people a chance to find success on their own terms, proving that with the right support, talent and hard work, every student can achieve greatness — no matter what their chosen path.
