About the Fund

Historical Society of Martin County fund, the endowment for the Elliott Museum (est. 2016)

This beloved fifty-plus year old organization operates two locations, the Elliott Museum and the historic House of Refuge on Hutchinson Island, the only remaining house of its kind. With the opening of a new facility in 2013, the Historical Society began doing business as the Elliott Museum.

The organization serves the community in a variety of different ways. People who live in and visit the Treasure Coast of Florida can see a variety of exhibits, including a fabulous collection of cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, classic boats, and even a plane. They can hear stories about their favorite plays and players in the Baseball gallery, and learn about actress Frances Langford and her husband Ralph Evinrude. They can see Americana from times past, including toys, a model circus, trains and boat models. And, in the Changing Exhibition Gallery and the main hall, they can return again and again to see traveling exhibitions from other places and the work of local artists.

People can also take art classes in the Studio, attend one of the many lectures, take special guided tours, and attend special event such as the Museum’s annual car show Classics at the Beach.

Each year, tens of thousands of adults, school-aged children, and families visit the Museum for a fun and friendly time. The Museum enriches the lives of these visitors, as well as the many volunteers who help to present the Museum’s exhibitions and programs. For those who value satisfying experiences, the Museum is an important resource.

The Museum’s strategy for sustainability is to build an endowment that will generate thirty percent of its annual operating income. Our goal is to build our endowment to $10 to $20 million to guarantee that the Museum will be here to enrich the lives of future generations.
