Support Forever at the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum

The Historical Society of Palm Beach County shares local history through the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum, education programs, its archival collection, and the research facility at the 1916 Historic Courthouse in West Palm Beach.

This endowment is named in honor of Palm Beach County’s beloved historian James Ponce, who passed away in 2015. He was a celebrated champion of the mission of the HSPBC long after his tenure as president of its board of governors. Staff recall that after Ponce completed each of his afternoon tours of Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, he would visit the Historical Society and empty his pockets full of cash donations.

Ponce served as the official historian of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce and The Breakers, and received numerous recognitions for sharing his vast historical knowledge. In 1996 he was honored by the Palm Beach Town Council as the island’s “Two-Legged Historical Landmark. ” The establishment of the James Augustine Ponce Endowment ensures that the HSPBC can continue to create extraordinary exhibits in the Johnson History Museum to showcase its archives and remain a recognized source for programs that inspire and engage.
