Student Spotlight
“I plan to attend the University of Florida with the help of an $11,000 scholarship I received from the Community Foundation. I was beyond happy and excited when I saw the e-mail that I had received a scholarship from the Community Foundation. Just seeing the e-mail gave me a breath of hope for my future. There are no words to thank the Community Foundation because they are truly helping my dream come true and giving me more hope day after day. I can’t wait to begin my career in medicine and make my dad who looks down on me proud, and my mom who holds my hand every step of the way even prouder. Thank you for the opportunity and for seeing something special in me.” -Allison C.; pictured above
Students are evaluated by an advisory committee of board members and community volunteers based on a written application, test scores, transcripts and interviews. Individual scholarships ranged in amounts from $1,000 to $36,000 this year and were awarded to students from 32 high schools and colleges.
“Each scholarship winner is an exceptional student working hard to make our community a better place,” said Brad Hurlburt, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “It is through the generosity of the Foundation’s donors that these students can continue their education. Our scholarship program is a wonderful way to empower local youth and show them the impact of philanthropy.”
