Don’t miss the last party of the season – the Founder’s Award Luncheon – hosted by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. The celebration of philanthropy will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Kravis Center’s Cohen Pavilion.
The highlight will be a special presentation of the Founder’s Award honoring the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The Knight Foundation is a national foundation with strong local roots. It invests in journalism, the arts, technology and in the success of cities where brothers John S. and James L. Knight once published newspapers – including our very own Palm Beach County. The Knight Foundation’s primary goal is to foster informed and engaged communities.
Keynote speaker Alberto Ibargüen is president, CEO and trustee of the Knight Foundation. He will discuss the importance of community engagement and detail some of the projects Knight is working on in Palm Beach County and across the nation.
The Community Foundation will share its new three-year vision and mission statement and recognize the Foundation’s 2016/2017 competitive grant recipients. CBS12’s own Suzanne Boyd will emcee.
“Alberto is an international, sought-after keynote speaker and individual,” said Community Foundation President and CEO, Bradley Hurlburt. “Not only has he won three Pulitzer Prizes, he is driving force behind international efforts to invest and protect journalism, the arts and encourage civic engagement. Alberto is the former publisher of the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. He also has received honorary degrees from five universities, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We are honored to have him at the Founder’s Luncheon and to have the privilege of being a Knight city.”
More than 500 are expected to attend the luncheon including board members, donors and fund holders, local nonprofit organizations, corporate sponsors and community leaders.
The Founder’s Award Luncheon’s premier sponsor is PNC Bank. Community sponsors include Julie Fisher Cummings; William and Jean Matthews; Florida Weekly; Northern Trust; Palm Beach Illustrated; South Florida PBS; Storage Rentals of America; The Honda Classic and The Palm Beach Post.
