The nonprofit Sweet Dream Makers is committed to fighting “bedlessness” in Palm Beach County by providing comfort and security to local children and families at no cost.
In Palm Beach County there’s a silent epidemic affecting our children where it hurts the most. It’s what some call “bedlessness”—a scenario where kids do not have a bed to call their own, either sharing a cramped bed with family members, or worse, finding themselves sleeping on unsafe and unsanitary floors.
Amidst this reality, the Boca Raton nonprofit Sweet Dream Makers has stepped in to drive change. The nonprofit has provided more than 21,000 beds to Palm Beach County families at no cost since 2017, and the number of requests is expected to rise in 2024.
“The impact that a good night’s sleep has on a child’s physical and mental health is really an impressive one,” said William E. Donnell, a Royal Palm resident and member of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties Board. “That’s why when my wife, Mary, introduced me to Sweet Dream Makers I knew I wanted to get involved.”
