About the Role

The Staff Accountant is a key contributor to ensuring the financial health and transparency of The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.  Reporting to the CFO, this position supports the foundation’s accounting and financial functions, including managing accounts payable and receivable, grant disbursements, reconciling accounts, and supporting the annual audit process.

Key Responsibilities:


Accounts Payable and Receivable:
  • Monitor daily banking activity and record all transactions in the accounting system.
  • Process and manage vendor invoices, grant disbursements, and scholarship disbursements.
  • Ensure all vendor invoices are recorded against the proper budget and general ledger account.
  • Process all donor contributions, rental payments, and customer payments in a timely manner ensuring accuracy of donor intention and fund designation.
  • Process all gift receipts and mailings.
General Ledger Management:
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with the monthly reconciliations bank and investment accounts.
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and coded to the correct funds.
Financial Reporting:
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports for fundholders and board meetings.
Grant and Scholarship Accounting:
  • Work closely with the grants and scholarship team to ensure accurate recording and timely disbursement of grants.
Compliance and Audit Support:
  • Assist with the preparation of schedules and documentation for the annual audit and tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and GAAP standards.
  • Maintain strong internal controls
Special Projects:
  • Participate in process improvements initiatives.
    Collaborate with other departments on projects as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five years of successful experience in business development, f- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
    2-4 years of experience in accounting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles.
    Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
