About the Fund
Florida Outreach Center for the Blind, Inc. (FOCB) was established in 2003 by a group of blind individuals to provide essential training and services for visually impaired residents of Palm Beach County. Its mission, “to develop and administer programs that will integrate blind and visually impaired persons into the social, economic, and spiritual lives of their community,” is carried out through hands-on training and personal mentoring. Classes are provided without cost to clients and include Independent Living Skills, Orientation and Mobility, Adaptive Technology, and Braille.
Rather than focusing on one’s disability and limitations, FOCB teaches clients that they can live full and active lives as they learn new ways to accomplish everyday tasks and achieve personal goals. FOCB is unique in that it employs people who are blind and who serve as powerful role models for program participants. FOCB is accredited by the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) and partners with the Florida Division of Blind Services to serve more than 300 individuals and their families each year.
