About the Fund
When Fran died in 2000, she left behind not only her son, daughter, and other family members, but also her second “family” at JFK Medical Center. She worked at the hospital for 30 years in positions that included supervisor of Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit and as Assistant Director of Nursing, and Risk Manager. Her family established this scholarship to help students pursue careers in the health profession.
“How Fran, Grandma, Mrs. Gay and Mom want us to remember her is with admiration for teaching us that her life will always be remembered by what we learned from her… that we must treat everyone we encounter with love, respect and thoughtfulness.”
– Mary Gay-Elfreth, November 2000
Dedicated to everyone at JFK
I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.
If I could relieve yesterday,
Just even for awhile,
I’d say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe even smile.
When tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.
